About Perth Mine

From 2004 to 2011, Sebilo reclaimed manganese ore at Perth Mine – south of Hotazel, on the eastern side of the manganese-rich Kalahari Basin. The operation has life of mine to 2033 and produces 35% grade of Mamatwane type manganese ore from its open pit.

Following being granted a new order prospecting right in 2009 on farm Perth, Sebilo began a 24-month drilling programme that resulted in the declaration of a total Resource of 9.05Mt that could be mined profitably.

A mining right was granted in April 2013 and stripping began soon afterwards. Production started in May 2014 and by February 2015 the operation ramped up to a steady state of ~720 000 run-of-mine tonnes per annum. Ore processing on site is currently outsourced to a contractor.

Longer-term development projects to increase Sebilo’s resource base include new greenfields and brownfields manganese prospecting opportunities that will prolong Sebilo’s life of mine and ensure long-term sustainability. Two particular opportunities we will explore include:

  • joint exploitation of a boundary pillar with an adjacent mine;
  • joint greenfields projects with emerging mines within and around the Kalahari Basin and surrounding areas
